Boasting a host of technical innovations, the C 200 CDI, C 200 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY and C 220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY deliver efficiency and power by combining enhanced output with a significantly higher torque rating. When it comes to performance, the new highly economical, low-emission diesel engine in the C 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY is in a leading position amongst 4-cylinder diesel engines.
Oil-spray nozzles have been expanded to improve piston cooling. And, thanks to factors including an optimised oil supply for the slide bearing, the C 200 CDI and C 200 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY develop 100 kW (136 hp).
This is 125 kW (170 hp) for the C 220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY and 150 kW (204 hp) for the C 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY. The C 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY in particular delivers a thrilling experience by combining its outstanding performance and a torque rating of up to 500 Nm with extremely economical consumption and emission values. These two members of a new diesel engine generation feature an injection pressure increased to 2000 bar, optimised combustion chambers, and precise piezo injectors. They also deliver turbocharging, two balance shafts and optimised alternator management. Performance is up to 20% higher than comparable engines of the previous series. The torque rating has increased by up to 25%, whereas fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are up to 23% lower. It also complies with the EU5 emissions standard.
The metal glow plugs in all four engines have been replaced by ceramic plugs, which can reach higher temperatures and therefore improve the engine’s cold-running characteristics. The diesel engines also come equipped with a particulate filter[2] as standard.
