The C-Class range offers a choice of nine different petrol engines, starting with three entry-level 4-cylinder models (of which two are supercharged): the C 180 KOMPRESSOR BlueEFFICIENCY and the C 200 KOMPRESSOR. Output and torque have been further increased thanks to optimised engine management software and a modified piston profile. The C 180 KOMPRESSOR BlueEFFICIENCY delivers 115 kW (156 hp) and a maximum torque rating of 230 Nm. The C 200 KOMPRESSOR produces an outstanding 135 kW (184 hp) and 250 Nm, which can accelerate the vehicle to 100 km/h in a mere 8.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 235 km/h (9.5 seconds and 230 km/h for the C 180 KOMPRESSOR BlueEFFICIENCY).
The C-Class is particularly efficient with the new engine C 250 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY. Development of the new generation of 4-cylinder engines (based on increasing performance and reducing consumption) has continued on an ongoing basis. Thanks to the BlueEFFICIENCY concept, fuel consumption has been reduced by more than 20 per cent compared with the previous model.
A key factor here is the exhaust-gas turbocharger, which can help to increase the efficiency of the 4-cylinder petrol engine. As a result, the optimised 1.8 litre Otto engine with direct petrol injection and variable valve timing burns fuel very efficiently and, thanks to factors including homogeneous direct injection and increased compression, displays a higher output potential than the previous model. It already complies with the EU5 emissions standard but continues to deliver peak torque, performance, noise levels and, thanks to two balance shafts, smooth operation. The C 250 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY has a rated output of 150 kW (204 hp) and develops a maximum torque rating of 310 Nm.
(C 180 KOMPRESSOR BlueEFFICIENCY: fuel consumption combined: 6.5-6.8 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined: 155-162 g/km; C 200 KOMPRESSOR: fuel consumption combined: 7.6-8.1 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined: 180-192 g/km; C 250 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY[1]: fuel consumption combined: 7.2 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined: 168 g/km)[2]
Refined power – in the shape of 6-cylinder engines in the C 300, C 350 and C 350 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY. They offer the perfect symbiosis of smooth running and fast acceleration. The maximum torque ratings of 300, 350 and 365 Nm respectively are available across a particularly wide engine speed range, ensuring that exceptional power reserves are available in every handling situation.
The V6 engines also boast exemplary fuel economy. This is due to four precisely adjustable camshafts, the position of which can be controlled to match changing requirements. The system ensures that the engines always receive exactly the right amount of fuel for the driving situation. The C 300 delivers 170 kW (231 hp) and the C 350 has 200 kW (272 hp). The C 350 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY with spray-guided petrol direct injection and a formidable output of 215 kW (292 hp) uses ten percent less fuel than a comparable 6-cylinder petrol engine. And its acceleration time is on a par with a sports car: from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.2 seconds.
All 6-cylinder versions are not only particularly economical in terms of fuel consumption – they can also be identified on sight by their sporty twin-pipe exhaust system.
(C 300: fuel consumption combined: 9.2-9.4 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined: 219-225 g/km; C 350: fuel consumption combined: 9.7-10.0 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined: 232-239 g/km; C 350 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY: fuel consumption combined: 8.3-8.9 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined: 193-208 g/km)[2]
