All-wheel drive – traction in any weather.

Four wheels propelling you forwards, one hundred percent control.

Optimal road contact: power and torque are continuously distributed to all four wheels as required. This provides additional traction and directional stability, which in turn improves both agility and handling safety. Become one with your vehicle and the road with 4MATIC all-wheel drive. For when all wheels have direct drive power, the result is a forwards thrust that will truly captivate you.

And you can control your vehicle even better, particularly in situations that could turn critical. In inclement weather conditions such as heavy rain, ice or snow, the strengths of the 4MATIC system really come to the fore: with excellent driving stability and perfect traction.

If one or more wheels lose their grip on the road, for example if the road surface is poor or there is ice on the road, they are braked individually by the 4ETS electronically controlled traction system, while at the same time torque is increased to those wheels with sufficient traction. 4MATIC reinforces the already exemplary handling on the Mercedes-Benz models and provides safety and assurance, even when driving dynamics are proving exceptionally demanding.

4MATIC splits torque 45 : 55 between the front and rear axle. The Mercedes-Benz engineers decided on this division as it offers the best conditions for safe handling and optimal traction. The system works together with the ESP® Electronic Stability Program, which is standard in all Mercedes-Benz passenger cars. And instead of differential locks it uses the electronically controlled 4ETS Electronic Traction System.

The performance-oriented all-wheel drive system for the CLS 63 AMG 4MATIC and the CLS 63 AMG S-Model 4MATIC offers a combination of the best possible traction and the driving dynamics so typical of AMG to give the ultimate in motoring pleasure. The rear-biased torque split of 33 : 67 as well as a slight basic locking effect counter the initial understeer that is typical of all-wheel drive systems.
