The E-Class with its new-generation 4-cylinder engines is particularly efficient. The development theme – higher performance and lower consumption – has been continued undeterred and, thanks to the BlueEFFICIENCY concept, it has been possible to reduce fuel consumption by more than 20 per cent compared with the previous models.

With the exhaust-gas turbocharger, it was possible to increase the efficiency of the 4-cylinder petrol engines considerably. As a result, the optimised 1.8 litre Otto-cycle engines with direct petrol injection and variable valve timing burn fuel particularly efficiently and, thanks to factors including homogeneous direct injection and increased compression, boast a higher output potential than the previous models. They already today comply with the increasingly stringent EU 5 limit levels in terms of consumption and emissions, in spite of which they continue to produce peak torque, power output, low noise levels and, thanks to two balancer shafts, smooth operation. The E 200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY for instance, delivers 135 kW (184 hp) and develops a maximum torque of 270 Nm, while the E 250 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY has a rated output of 150 kW (204 hp) and a maximum torque of 310 Nm.

The new E-Class Saloon is also available with a 3.5 litre V6 engine, which also complies with the EU5 exhaust gas emissions standard: the E 350 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY. The features of this engine include direct injection and 4-valve technology. The energy efficiency of the auxiliary units has also been improved. The new radiator blind optimises the vehicle’s aerodynamics, and the fuel pump, ECO power steering pump and air-conditioning compressor now operate in line with requirements.

The rated torque is 365 Nm at 3000-5100 rpm, the engine output is 215 kW (292 hp). This engine combines smooth operation and eco-efficiency with the highest level of agility and handling dynamism. The 6-cylinder engine accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds.

The E 350 4MATIC is available in an all-wheel drive variant. This model is equipped with port injection and 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive, delivers 200 kW (272 hp) and achieves a maximum torque of 350 Nm at 2400 - 5000 rpm.

Concentrated power is packed into the 8-cylinder engines of the E 500 and E 500 4MATIC. Both engines comply with EU 5 emissions standard and deliver a powerful 285 kW (388 hp) at a maximum torque of 530 Nm. The E 500 accelerates within 5.2 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h (E 500 4MATIC: 5.4 seconds).

The E 63 AMG boasts the most powerful engine. It is a thoroughbred sports engine, which delivers outstanding performance thanks to its high-speed concept and naturally aspirated engine design. It accelerates the E-Class from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds – that says just about everything.
