7G-TRONIC, the optimised standard-fit 7-speed automatic transmission with DIRECT SELECT steering-wheel gearshift buttons, makes driving the M-Class even more comfortable. The transmission registers whether you driving around corners, uphill or downhill and adjusts the gearshifts to your driving style. The M-Class responds more sensitively to a calm driving style and more dynamically to a sporty driving style.

The gears are selected using the selector lever behind the steering wheel. To shift up or down manually, simply tap the steering-wheel gearshift buttons.
