As the inventor of the automobile, Mercedes-Benz has a special responsibility here to implement innovative technologies in order to develop solutions that help preserve the environment and ensure that raw materials are used as efficiently as possible – without compromising on comfort, safety and driving enjoyment. We call them TrueBlueSolutions – whose most pre-eminent result is today the S 400 HYBRID.

Its drive system combines the power of an efficient 6-cylinder petrol engine with the strengths of an electric motor. With a consumption of only 7.9–8.2 litres/100 km (combined) and CO2 emission values of just 186–191 g/km (combined), this S-Class is the most efficient luxury-class saloon in the world.

A wealth of measures for the consumption optimisation of conventional drive technologies have been grouped together under the name BlueEFFICIENCY. You can experience this in the S-Class, e.g. in the S 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY. We were able to improve the LCA in this model by 10 percent – among other things through a new electrohydraulic power steering system, a transmission-ratio optimised transmission with standstill decoupling and standard 17-inch light-alloy wheels with low-rolling-resistance tyres.
